Tournament Rules

Fraser Valley Classic Female U18AAA Tournament Rules

1. The tournament format will feature 8 total teams. All teams are guaranteed 5 games.
2. All games will be played under Hockey Canada rules as modified by BC Hockey. Canada/BC Hockey guidelines for equipment will be enforced for all Hockey Canada registered teams while USA Hockey registered teams must abide by USA rules regarding required hockey equipment.

Game Length:
1. All games will feature period lengths of 20/20/20 with ice being resurfaced between periods.
2. A games will have a 5 minutes warm up
3. All teams must be prepared to play 15 minutes prior to the scheduled game time as the start and end times are approximate and the tournament facility will expect games to start following the end of the prior game.

Game Rules:
1. The tournament committee will provide pucks for warm-ups and games for all teams.
2. For all tournament games the home team will wear their dark coloured uniforms. In the event of any conflict the visiting team will be required to change uniforms.
3. Each team will be awarded one 30-second timeout per game (In the championship round, this includes any overtime periods that may need to be played)
4. There will be no overtime in the preliminary round. Points will be awarded as follows:
◦Win 2 points
◦Tie 1 point
◦Loss 0 points
5. In the event two teams are tied after the preliminary round the tiebreaking formulas will be used in the following order:
◦Head-to-head results
◦Most Wins
◦Goal differential: GF - GA
◦Goal differential formula: GF/(GF + GA)
◦Fewest GA
◦Most GF
◦First goal in head-to-head game
◦Fewest PIMs
◦Coin toss
6. In the event three or more teams are tied after preliminary round play the tiebreaking formula will use the following order (as soon as one criteria eliminates one or more teams the process starts over from the beginning with the remaining teams involved):
◦Wins
◦Goal differential: GF - GA
◦Goal differential formula: GF/(GF + GA)
◦Fewest GA
◦Most GF
◦Fewest PIMs
◦Coin toss

7. The team with the better record will be the home team in the championship round of the tournament
8. In the event of a tie after regulation play in the playoffs, a 5-minute (3 vs 3) stop time sudden death overtime period will be played following a 2-minute rest period (teams will not change ends). If a penalty is called the teams will play 4 vs 3. If a second penalty is called against the same team the teams will play 5 vs 3 until one or both penalties expire. Upon a stoppage in play the teams would then revert to the appropriate 3 vs 3 format.
9. If no goal is scored in OT, then a 3-player shoot-out follows with the home team having the option to shoot first or last. If no winner is determined, then a sudden death shoot out will follow. No player may shoot twice until every eligible player has shot. After all eligible skaters have shot for the team with the fewest skaters, both teams are allowed to have players shoot a second time. A player that has been ejected is not eligible to participate in the shoot-out.
10. There will be no ice resurfacing between the end of regulation play and any overtime period.
11. The tournament committee reserves the right to adjust the schedule or change the venue of any games (if necessary).
12. MVPs will be handed out at the end of each game. Teams will choose their own team game MVP but no player can be chosen twice.
13. After the conclusion of the championship game, a tournament MVP for goalie, defenseman and forward will be selected by the tournament committee.
